Escape Rooms are a type of immersive adventure game in which people are “locked” in a heavily themed or decorated room with other participants and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and escape the room within a set time limit. The games are based on "escape the room" video games in which the player is locked inside a room and must explore his or her surroundings in order to escape. Players must be observant and use their critical thinking skills to escape the room. Other inspirations include adventure board games and movies. Weekend or day event escape games have been held in the United States, Europe, Australia and a number of Asian countries. In the 2010s, real-life room escape games became popular in Japan, Taiwan and Mainland China. Each game integrates local concepts or original themes to settings. For example, some games require you to escape prison cells, space stations or werewolf villages. The possibilities on design and themes are endless! Permanent real life escape games in fixed locations were first opened in Europe and followed later in North America, Asia and Australia. Notable organizers include The Escape Hunt Experience, clueQuest, HintHunt, Puzzle Break and AdventureRooms. ESCAPE ROOM WISCONSIN opened it's first location in September of 2015. The Appleton location will house a total of 3 different themed escape rooms by January of 2016. Room themes and puzzles will change yearly to bring fresh, new and exciting gaming and team building experiences to the Fox Valley.
