Joe began drawing cartoons while in high school over 30 years ago. He had a regular panel in his college newspaper for a period of time, and later drew single panel cartoons in monthly trade magazines.
Joe's education includes a BS in Business/Marketing and an MBA in Operations Research. His first career was working for a Fortune 50 company for 22 years, mostly supporting national and international operations. Joe held management positions in operations, industrial engineering, and international marketing with extensive experience in training and internal consulting.
Cartooning was always a hobby for Joe up until last year when he incorporated Chessmore Publishing Company. Before that, he produced family holiday and birthday greeting cards, drew caricatures for various professional friends and colleagues in comic routines at their place of business (Doctors, Lawyers, Dentists, Optometrists, etc.), and produced artwork used on business cards and in small ads. He now writes and illustrates humor and children's picture books in North Carolina, and is owner of four small executive recruiting offices in Atlanta.
Joe's interest in Halloween goes back to his childhood. For the past 25 years, when not working with haunted fund raisers he has been putting on his own show in his front yard for trick-or-treaters. Through industry research, his experience with haunted attractions and home haunts, along with having a vivid imagination, Joe produced his first book, "Give Them a Real Scare This Halloween". This 128 page soft bound book is filled with creative ideas for haunting your home or fund raiser, costumes, props, special effects and Halloween parties. It contains over 250 cartoon illustrations.
Though he is currently writing, illustrating and publishing two children's books, Joe is also getting more involved with the haunted attraction industry as a cartoonist for various publications and web sites. He hopes to utilize his extensive experience as a group facilitator of creative brainstorming sessions within the haunted attraction industry. These sessions are used to develop new ideas, correct existing problems, or improve an existing operation. There are also plans to publish a book of dark humor cartoons in 1999.
